Welcome to Sound Advice Services

It’s become very complicated. It used to be that you could sit down on the couch, press the “power” button on the remote, and start watching your favorite show. But now days, things are harder. The new high definition flat screen TVs sure do look nice in the store, but in order to get that great “high-def” picture, you have to add in a cable box, TiVo, DVD and/or blu-ray player, cable everything up the right way with the right kind of cable(s), and then figure out how to turn everything on and get the right source to show on the screen. And then there are all the remotes! So many remotes!

Activity-oriented universal remote controls, like the Logitech Harmony One can help. After these nifty devices are told what kind of equipment you have, and what is connected to what, you can press a single, simple, logically-named button, like “Watch Cable” or “Watch DVD”, and everything just works, just like the old days! Of course, that’s after you get it all set up….

After watching many a smart, educated, knowledgeable friend or family member wrestle with complicated home electronics, and after seeing how much happier they were and how much more they used their equipment once I set them up with a new activity-based remote, I decided to found Sound Advice Services so that I can help you with these same technologies. Visit the website now and learn how I can help bring simplicity, sanity, and Sound Advice to your life!

Whole-House Music System Considerations
When considering whole-house music systems, there are several questions you should ask yourself. How many rooms do you want to listen to your music in? Are any of the rooms outside (deck or patio)? How do you want to listen to the music; through in-wall or in-ceiling speakers or through an existing audio device (Receiver, Bose wave radio, high quality clock-radio, etc.)? Do you want to listen to the same music source in every room, or do you want to listen to different music sources or different music in different rooms? Do you want to be able to control the music playing from the remote rooms or from the original music source? Do you want to view music information (song title, artist name, album name, radio station, etc.) from the remote rooms? Do you want to listen to music sources available on the internet?

As you can imagine, how you answer these questions determines the equipment you'll need, which will determine the cost of the solution. Much of the cost of more elaborate whole-home systems enable you to control music sources remotely, view music information, and listen to different music in different rooms at the same time. If you don't need these features, lower-cost solutions are available. If you do want some or all of these features, new products are available that lower the total cost of ownership of more elaborate (and more full-featured) systems.

Another consideration is site planning and site preparation. Older whole-house systems required you to run expensive and heavy speaker wire from a central location to all zones. Today, equipment exists that can transmit your music wirelessly or over existing house electrical wiring while still enjoying full fidelity. Also, simple, lower cost solutions that use network wiring (Cat-5) to distribute signal and power over smaller, easier to install wires.
